    Question

If u had a load of film rank transfered. Is it best to get all the colour correction done then - i mean if you played about with the colour afterwards on the computer, how much quality do u loose? I guess it depends on how much you tweak it in post.

Also i'm about to send my footage to super8 sound to get a rank transfer. Why are alot of people out there against super 8 sound? And should i send my footage elswhere?

if you have a good eye (huge if), you can do most color corrections on your computer, but you should have the density correction done by the transfer operator. you lose way too much dynamic range if you try to correct for underexposure yourself, and forget about trying to do anything about overexposure.

I know it is not always possible to sit there whilst the colorist transfers your film--I feel the correction in the RANK is always best. Keep good camera reports is a good start. Then you can make notes for each scene and what you want the colorist to do.

    Good Luck
